WANA Neighborhood Council Election
Do you live in Walnut Acres
west of Woodlake? Then you are in the Woodland Hills/Warner Center
Neighborhood Council Area 4, which will be holding an election on Thursday,
Nov. 8th at the Pacific Boys Lodge at 4900 Serrania (at Serrania
and Wells).
WANA Meetings
Please plan to attend the next WANA
meeting usually held at Woodlake Elementary starting
time normally at 7pm, but please come anytime you can make it. Meeting
schedule will be posted and updated as information becomes available.
The Committee on Association Formation has finished
writing the Association’s By-Laws. The document has been reviewed by a
specialized attorney and revised in accordance with his recommendations. It
was presented for ratification at the May 14th meeting and was
duly ratified. WANA’s Mission Statement was also adopted.
Our
membership continues to grow – we now have over 260 members! Please
encourage your neighbors to attend the meeting and join WANA. We “flyered”
the neighborhood this time around but will not be able to do so for the next
meeting. Neighbors will hear about the next meeting only if they provide
contact information, by joining WANA (via the membership form) or at least
providing an e-mail address.
Walnut
Acres trick or treating
Our neighborhood is not the easiest for trick or treating. Please
carry flashlights and first aid for your little ghosts and goblins this
Halloween! You really only need a couple of bandaids and first aid cream in
case of the occasional skinned knee, those costumes can be "tricky" when
running from door to door...
WANA Membership Renewal
It is time to renew your WANA membership! WANA seeks annual voluntary
donations of $25 per household. You can
send your renewal to WANA at P.O. Box 522, Woodland Hills, CA 91365-0522.
No forms, but if your contact information has changed, please let us know.
We will send you a receipt. If you joined WANA after May 1st,
your membership contribution will be credited for the 2007-2008 membership
year. WANA’s membership year runs from July 1 st through June 30th.
Thank you for your continued support of WANA!
WANA Safety Committee
Lynette Mathis, a member of the WANA Safety Committee, seeks volunteers
to head up Neighborhood Watch groups in Walnut Acres.
If you are active in the Neighborhood Watch
organization, or would like to form a Neighborhood Watch group in your area,
please contact Lynette at
lgm1217@yahoo.com. Our goal is to have a Neighborhood Watch group
established for every part of Walnut Acres.
WANA Board of Directors
Nominations
Important News Regarding May 14th General
Membership Meeting – At the May 14th meeting WANA will elect its first Board
of Directors to guide us through our second and third years. Seven
Directors will be elected. The by-laws provide that officers will be chosen
from among the Board members.
We are looking for a group of highly motivated Walnut Acres residents who
will participate actively in making policy decisions for the Association as
it moves forward to preserve and protect the character of Walnut Acres.
Members who wish to serve as Directors or nominate other members as
candidates should respond to this email no later than Friday, May 4, 2007.
No one will be listed on the ballot without their prior consent.
To self-nominate or to nominate
another member as a Director candidate, please send email to both
Donna Schuele at
dcsclv@pacbell.net and Susan Klenner at
wana@klenners.com.
In advance of the meeting we will send an email that will contain the
following attachments: (1) Minutes of the 2/15 meeting, (2) Agenda for the
5/14 meeting, (3) Proposed By-laws of the Association, (4) Proposed Mission
Statement and (5) Candidates for Board of Directors.
The May 14th Meeting will be very important, as it will
include actions that will further establish WANA as a significant presence
in Woodland Hills. Please be sure to attend and urge your neighbors to do
so as well. New members are always welcome.
Thank
you for all you do to preserve and protect Walnut Acres.
Oasis Event Center news
As you know, the Woodland
Hills/Warner Center Neighborhood Council held public hearings on whether to
endorse the “concept” of the Oasis Event Center, a 10,000-seat arena
proposed for Warner Center. The neighborhood council then considered and
adopted the following resolution at its meeting on October 18th (edited):
Whereas no specific site has been identified or secured in escrow and
sufficient information, studies, reports and other mitigating details about
key issues impacting the community in a concept of this magnitude have not
been supplied by the developer; and
Whereas an approval in “concept” by either the PLUM committee or the full
Neighborhood Council would mistakenly signal City agencies that the
community supports this venue;
Be it
resolved that the PLUM committee recommends a vote against the proposed
concept of the Oasis by the full WHWC Neighborhood Council; and
Be it
further resolved that, because this project is only in “concept” form and
there is no specific site, nor plans studies, reports or other critical
information available, PLUM or the Neighborhood Council does NOT make any
recommendation to refer this issue to any other Committee, Council office or
City agency.
